Privacy policy

Last updated 9 October 2026

This explains what DevQuiz Pro collects when you play, why, and what you can do about it. We keep it short and collect as little as we can.

Who we are

DevQuiz Pro is run by Mikrosell Systems in Nairobi, Kenya, and is the data controller for what is described here. Contact: company@mikrosell.com.

What we collect

  • Your nickname or username. Needed to play. It appears on the leaderboards and on result pages you share.
  • Your email address, if you sign in with email. Used to send sign-in codes and, unless you turn them off, reminders and weekly or monthly summaries. An email address is needed to play.
  • Your X handle, if you choose to add it. If you do, the leaderboard shows it (and links to your X profile) instead of your username.
  • How you play. Your answers, scores, times, streaks, XP, badges, which challenge links you used, and when you were last active. This runs the game, the leaderboards and the stats on your profile.
  • Fair-play records. When you sign in, start a challenge, answer a question or finish, we log the event with a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address and browser details, never the plain values. We use it only to spot cheating, such as one person playing many accounts. These records are deleted after 60 days. When you ask for a sign-in code we also keep your IP address with that request to limit abuse such as bulk requests.
  • Where you came from. When you open the site we note a short label for the source (for example X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, a search engine or direct) together with a scrambled (hashed) IP address, never the full link you came from. We use it to see which posts bring players and to count visitors. These records are deleted after 60 days.
  • Basic visit statistics through Vercel Analytics, which counts page views without using cookies or following you across sites.

We do not ask for payment details, and we do not sell your data.

Cookies and similar storage

  • A sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in on this browser. It holds a random session token (only a hash of it is stored on our side). Without it the game cannot recognise you.
  • A source cookie (30 days) that holds the short source label above, so a later sign-up can be credited to the post that brought you. It does not follow you across other sites.
  • A short-lived sign-up cookie (15 minutes) used while you finish creating an account after confirming your email.

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

Who it is shared with

  • Public on the site: your username or X handle, your scores and rank, your streak and level, and the results you share. Shared result links show your name, score and answers pattern (not the questions you got wrong).
  • Friends you challenge: if someone plays against one of your shared results, you can see their name and score, and they can see yours.
  • Services that run the site for us: Vercel (hosting and analytics), Neon (our database), and Resend (sending email). They process data only to provide those services.
  • Sponsors: we do not give sponsors your personal data. When you tap a sponsor, we count the click and send you to their site, which has its own privacy policy. If you win a sponsor-funded prize, we may share the contact detail you give us with that sponsor so they can deliver it.
  • Third-party images: some topic logos load from the Simple Icons CDN and the X logo and fonts are bundled, so loading a page may expose your IP address to that CDN.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and play history while your account exists. Sign-in code requests are short-lived and are cleared out regularly. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your profile, email, X handle and play history from the live database. Backups from our providers can take a little longer to age out.

Your choices

  • Emails: use the unsubscribe link in any reminder or summary, or switch reminders off on your profile page. Sign-in codes are still sent when you ask for one.
  • X handle: add, change or remove it on your profile page.
  • Access, correction and deletion: email company@mikrosell.com from the address on your account, or tell us your username, and we will respond within a reasonable time. You have these rights under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, and similar laws where you live.

Children

DevQuiz Pro is meant for people aged 13 and over. If you think a child under 13 has an account, email company@mikrosell.com and we will remove it.

Security

Sign-in tokens and codes are stored hashed, connections use HTTPS, and access to the admin area is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your player code private: anyone who has it can play as you.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, where we can, tell you on the site.
